Would You Rather...? Book Tag

Getting to terms with my mild blogging slump, I thought I was bound to endure it and wait for it to pass.
But then...
Then I saw the Would you rather Book Tag, and the need to blog was back!
Am I cured from my slump?
I do now know.
What I do know is that I want to do this tag.
And so... I'm going to do this tag!

*Would you rather read only trilogies or standalones?*

Trilogies.
Definitely trilogies.

There was a time I didn't even want to read standalones.
Just like how I love movies but I absolutely love TV shows, I always loved trilogies\series better than standalones. I just couldn't deal with the fact that it was just one book and that's it. It wasn't enough. I wanted more.

These days I do read standalones (and a few of them are even on my top favorite), but not much. I can't stop myself from getting disappointed when I see a book that has no continuation. Especially if it's a book I really want to read.
What can I say, just one book in a story isn't enough for me.

*Would you rather read only male or female authors?*

*gasps* what is this torture?

If I had to choose, if I really had no choice in the matter, I would say... female authors.
My poor, poor heart is dying. Jay Kristoff, Rick Riordan... I'm so sorry.

Some of my all times favorite authors are male, but most of my all times favorite authors - and authors I read in general - are female.
Which is definitely not on purpose.
I just noticed that, for some reason, 99% of the authors I read are female. Go figure.
And yet... no, how could I live without reading any male authors books? I refuse.

*Would you rather shop at Barnes & Nobles or Amazon?*

I actually never shopped at Barnes and Nobles before, so...
I'll have to go with amazon on this one.
Even though my preference is actually neither but rather Book Depository.
The shipment is free and the books arrive to me within a week. Honestly, what more could I ask for?
With amazon... the shipment costs a lot + it takes about two weeks for the books to arrive.

But. I have an amazon kindle and it's honestly a life savior. So yes, I'm sticking with amazon on kindle and with book depository on physical books.

*Would you rather read five pages per day or five books per week?*

What is this question? How can any reader survive reading just five pages per day? This is the definition of insanity. Soon, you'll see readers going around zombie-like from reading deprivation.

True, 5 books a week is... a lot. And for someone who loves to read, saying it's a lot of books really means it's a lot of books to read in just one week.

Yet the chances of me going insane from reading only five pages a day (five pages! Not even 5 chapters!) are much higher. Not to mention, said 5 books a week can always involve short stories and such. We don't always have to read a 700 pages long book, you know.

*Would you rather all books became movies or TV
shows?*

TV shows!
Sorry, movies, but I always proffered TV shows best.
Plus, with TV shows... there is always room for telling the story of the whole book\series. And also for improvement.

I can already think of a few book series that could make one hell of a TV show.
Take The Lunar Chronicles, for example. Can you even imagine the awesomeness of it as a TV show?

*Would you rather be a professional reviewer or an author?*

As much as I love reviewing books and share my thoughts with you guys, I've been wanting to be an author for a very-very long time now. My entire life, it would seem. Way before I even started reviewing books.

I'm going to go all the way forward with this dream. If really given the ultimatum between reviewing books or writing books, writing stories is always my first choice.

But, hey, it doesn't mean I can't have a blog anymore. I mean, how many books do I actually review on Magiverse? (see The pressure of Writing Book Reviews post for reference).
As much as I love reviewing - and would even like to believe I'm quite good at it (yeah, right) - I'm a far better fit to writing stories, I assure you.

*Would you rather only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?*

I used to re-read a lot in the past.
But ever since joining goodreads somewhere back in 2013, and discovering the gigantic booksphere... "what? re-read? me? but there are so many books I still need to read!"
Yeah... so, not a re-reader anymore.
Don't get me wrong, I still re-read books - and love it! - but books just keep coming out. And... let's face it, you can't just re-read your top 20 favorite books again and again and again or you'll end up hating them.
And I do not want to end up hating my favorite books. Everyone needs a break sometimes, even from the things they love.
So if push comes to shove between re-reading and keep reading ones you haven't read, I choose keep reading on.

*Would you rather be a librarian or a book seller?*

At first, I thought book seller.
Because it means being in on all the newest books.
But then I really thought of what would suite be best and it's definitely a librarian.

There is no denying working in a library is much less stressful and much more soothing than being a book seller.
So the books may not be as new as I love them to be, but a library is a magical place, somewhere I can feel free. And that's all that matters, really.

*Would you rather only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?*

I choose my favorite genre.
Which is fantasy.
I cannot live without reading fantasy. Seriously.
Choosing this genre means I'll lose some amazing non-fantasy authors but the fantasy world is so vast and big that I don't see myself ever getting enough of it. I'll always have what to read when it comes to fantasy.

*Would you rather only read physical books or e-books?*

Physical books, if I could only.
I would have absolutely LOVED to read every single book as a physical copy. It's not that I don't love or appreciate e-books - not at all - It's just that 99% of the books I read are e-books. It really makes an addicted reader want physical books desperately.

The curse of living in a faraway land where English books are extinct and the shipping cost it treacherous.
Sounds scary, doesn't it?
Well that's where my loyal kindle comes in to save the day!
If not for my kindle, I would be either bookless of moneyless right about now.
Both terrifying ideas, because without money you can't buy books.
So yes... if I could, I would only read physical copies (:
Being as it may, I'm content with my kindle, too.

And that's it for the Would you rather...? book tag.
I had fun doing this tag.
It was also a great reprieve from my blogging slump.
You know how frustrating a blogging slump could be, don't you fellow bloggers?
It's truly horrible.
On the bright side, I managed - with great difficulty - to write another post!
*Hooray*
I'm trying to slowly get back. If my posts may seem a little bit off... know this is the blogging slump talking.
I shall see you again very soon (probably with a very emotional Nevernight review) (:
Until then...

  1. A TLC TV-show sounds absolutely amazing! And I loved your librarian/bookseller answer, because I feel the exact same way! I used to LOVE my library, but they've completely renewed it and now it feels more like a business center that happens to have a lot of books. It's not great.
Also, as someone from a faraway land where there are hardly any English books, I feel your pain. But HOW does it take TBD only one week to arrive? Here, it takes at least 2 D: Anyway, great post!

    1. A TLC TV show, huh? We can only dream... (:

What! Libraries must stay sacred. They are a safe place, a place where every readers should feel... at home. Safe.
It literally pains me to hear what they did to your library.

Ah, so you share this burden also. I feel you.
Hmm... Well, I live about a few hours flight from England. TBD sends their book to me from there, which is probably why it takes them about a week (rather than two) to arrive.
Insane, isn't it? That there is absolutely no English in my country, I'm completely cut off from English books, yet a few hours of flight away lies Great Britain '^^

Thank you so much for your comment, Lauren! :D

  2. I agree with almost ALL of your answers! I was nodding in agreement throughout the post :D The only one that I would answer differently is the first one. I would choose standalones, even though it would be a sad world without trilogies. But I would get so tired of reading trilogy after trilogy! And there are huge standalones that have as many pages as trilogies sooo win-win :')

But to agree on all answers except for one... we are a lot the same :D
      Thanks, Esther! ^__^

  3. Okay a) I SO agree with you on trilogies vs standalones... I always want more! Of course, there are some awesome standalones out there, but I will always prefer series. And b) I need A Lunar Chronicles TV show! And c) I am in the same boat about rereading. I so rarely get to do it anymore!

    1. Ah, words to my heart! ;)
At the very least, I hope they'll make TLC some movies. But I would much-much-much prefer a TV show.
Yeah... so sad we rarely re-read anymore. On the other hand, we keep reading on :D

      Thank you, Emily (:

  4. You are a great writer and your slump was not noticeable. I know what a slump feels like because I am in a slump.

That said, this was a fun post.I laughed at your 5 pages a day causing us to walk around zombie like from reading deprivation. I go through book withdraw myself.
